The Role of the Teacher
We at Academy Primary School believe in setting regular, structured, informative and educational homework for the pupils in our care.Homework provides:
Information to parents about the class work their child has covered during the school day;
The opportunity for parents to get involved in their child's education;
Time for the parents to sit and talk to their child about what they are doing;
For the development of independence and self discipline in the child as he / she completes the tasks. Back to top
The Role of the Parent
Homework encourages self-discipline. Parents should not do the homework for their child but they should encourage their child to give of their best at all times both in terms of content and presentation.Homework should be signed by a parent or guardian and the time taken by the child noted.
The amount of time spent on homework should never be excessive. If a parent is concerned about the length of time their child is taking to complete his / her work they should make contact with their child's teacher.
Homework is normally given from Monday to Thursday. Please be aware if your child says on a regular basis that he / she did not get any homework Back to top
The Homework
Children will be set a range of oral tasks which may include spellings, tables, reading and vocabulary as well as formal written exercises or research activities.The amount and difficulty of homework may differ from child to child in any particular class.
Teachers may operate 'points systems' to reward effort and presentation. This could mean the child being excused an aspect of homework for a night if he/she has earned the required number of points.
Homework set will show progression, continuity and differentiation. Back to top
