School Development Plan

What is it?
The School Development Plan is produced in line with the requirements of the 1998 Education Reform Order (N.I.). However the purpose is not solely statutory, but to provide a framework to set out how the ongoing developmental work of the school is being defined, planned, implemented and evaluated over a given period of time.

The School Development Plan will reflect the ethos and aims of our school and forms one part of how Academy Primary School is managed.

The School Development Plan allows for important issues to be prioritised through detailed Action Plans.

The School Development Plan is a sufficiently flexible document which allows the school to take account of the many new initiatives and changes.

Below is a flavour of the contents, a copy of which is available in school. Back to top
Why tell you?
At Academy Primary School we want parents not only to be informed about day to day life but also to share in our plans and vision for your children.

In a recent independent *SETAQ survey in which over 120 parents from this school took part, responses highlighted that whilst some of our parents were aware of a School Development Plan, few could actually comment on its content!

What are our current curricular priorities?
Numeracy

Currently the school is evaluating aspects of Numeracy such as planning content, mental mathematics and pupil progression.

Science

In August staff conducted an audit of current practice and on the basis of these findings hope to address matters relating to resources, organisation and current schemes of work.

ICT

The school's web site and related policies have recently been updated.
In September 2004 our 15 station computer suite became operational and we installed 7 interactive whiteboards and we hope to fit every room with whiteboards in a roling programme over the next two years.
Staff are undertaking a school based in-service training programme on the use of the whiteboards and will use direct time to build resources for use with their children.
We have had our first year of the P7 CCEA ICT Accreditation and will continue that this year and develop and extend the P4-P6 award scheme that we started last year to compliment the CCEA progamme. Back to top
